Quilting has come a long way from being a practical exercise in using up scraps of worn-out clothing.

No longer are quilts limited to keeping the cold from sleeping loved ones or wrapping fragile treasures for the long journey west.

All quilts shown here were photographed at the annual Quiltfest, held in Rising Sun, Indiana.

Today’s quilters have the luxury of choosing to sew, design, create works of art that might lie on a bed … or might adorn a wall.

Fabric, paint, charms, feathers … the quilter’s imagination is the only limit to the design.

Quilts are as unique, fun, traditional, avant-garde, and special as each and every fabric artist.
